The Edge of Madness

The Edge of Madness is Tony Birtley’s first novel, a work of fiction heavily based on fact. It centres on the Bosnian War and, in particular, the events in the capital Sarajevo and the eastern enclave of Srebrenica, where a brutal siege and widespread ethnic cleansing defined a new kind of warfare in the heart of Europe.

In mixing fact and fiction Birtley has tried to highlight the causes and effects of a war which split communities and families, where neighbour fought neighbour in an age-long cycle of violence which has plagued the Balkans for centuries.
